Hello!
I wonder if you might be interested in my creations. I make a range of papercraft automaton kits. you might like'The Automaton artist' (He's alive, and really draws) or perhaps 'Feeding time at the zoo'. Both have utube vids, and if you feel able to put them on your blog I'd be really grateful. People like my models when they see them, but the problem is getting the word about!
Keep up the good work..your blog is fab!
best wishes

...and I understand the Assassin's Creed II videogame now picks up on the idea of casting da Vinci as a sort of James Bond 'Q' as well.

Al-Jazari was of Kurdish Descent of the Botan tribe, his last name is the place of his birth just like Leonardo Da Vinci, its located in Northern Kurdistan.

I am not from that city but I have talked to people from there and they are very proud of him. There are many descendants of his tribe still living in the area.

Due to his writings in Arabic, he is often mistaken as an Arab.

you can get plans for this clock (number 6) and many other of Clayton Boyer's plans at his wife's website. here is his homepage: http://www.lisaboyer.com/Claytonsite/Claytonsite1.htm

Clayton Boyer is known for his unique, and beautiful clock designs. he goes quite in depth about this clock in various locations of his page. a 60 tooth escapement, and the other two big wheels are 62 teeth (instead of one being 60 and the other being 64).

In 1715 Swedenborg returned to Sweden, where he was to devote himself to natural science and engineering projects for the next two decades. A first step was his noted meeting with King Charles XII of Sweden in the city of Lund, in 1716. The Swedish inventor Christopher Polhem, who became a close friend of Swedenborg's, was also present. Swedenborg's purpose was to persuade the king to fund an observatory in northern Sweden. However, the warlike king did not consider this project important enough, but did appoint Swedenborg assessor-extraordinary on the Swedish board of mines (Bergskollegium) in Stockholm.[14]

From 1716 to 1718 Swedenborg published a scientific periodical entitled Daedalus Hyperboreus ("The Northern Daedalus"), a record of mechanical and mathematical inventions and discoveries. One notable description was that of a flying machine, the same he had been sketching a few years earlier (see Flying Machine (Swedenborg)).[13]

In 1724 he was offered the chair of mathematics at Uppsala University but he declined, saying that he had mainly dealt with geometry, chemistry and metallurgy during his career.
